Salam Alaikum ya crew. We are back in action and we need you back in action too!

The Shoo Habibs creative team has emerged from a few months off, with a couple of new additions to take us to the next level – a second draft script!

We had a long and fruitful workshop session after Mojgan delivered the first draft of her script, titled ‘A Jar of Jam‘. It was made very clear after that workshop session that you the crew were not overly impressed with that script, and unfortunately, after a lot of time spent thinking about what best to do next, Mojgan did not feel she could deliver a script that met our requirements.

So, never fear Enda is here! Our Project Director has managed to bring a new writer on board, and a Director that Claudia and I will be working with very closely to develop the second draft script.

Howard Jackson is the writer and you might remember seeing his name in the credits for Neighbours, Home and Away and the like, over the many series that have passed. He is very experienced, very community focused, very witty, very fast and just dam bloody good at what he does. He will come up with a kick-ass script that you’ll all be happy with I’m sure!

Kim Morduant has been appointed as the Director and he also has many years experience in producing TV drama and documentary. You’ll meet them both real soon and they are both looking forward to meeting you in the flesh... you see they’ve actually already met you, having watched all the videos from the workshops and they were blown away by your talent and performance finesse.

Anyway, down to business again. Things are moving fast and we’ll need everyone to switch back into Shoo Habibs mode from now until we shoot the film in April. Here’s a really brief run-down of where things area at.

On Saturday, Howard, Kim, Claudia, Enda and I met as the new creative team for the first time. Howard blew us away with a synopsis of ideas that he came up with after reading the first draft and looking at some of the workshop tapes. He spoke as fast as a mosquito flying through air looking for some raw skin to zap... and he certainly zapped us with his ideas pretty quickly. He created new characters, new plots, new scenarios and threaded them all together in a dialogue of about 8 mins with only a third of a seconds breath between every 10 words... phew it was a labour of love and really cool to hear his expertise just roll off the end of his tongue. The team and I are looking forward to working with him and I’m sure you will feel the same.

Kim is great and really understands the community process. He’s all excited about locations in and around Bankstown and making it look as authentic as authentic can be, and hey we all know there’s an endless stream of authenticity in Bankstown!

Howard is already working on the second draft as we speak. He should have something ready for us to rock with in a couple of weeks. Enda and I met tonight to plan our first meeting with you guys, the participants and that will be next Thursday Feb 19.

After that comes the exciting part where we get to witness your passion and talent again at an audition session planned for February 21. And the rest... you’ll find out about next Thursday, so make sure you get your buts there beautiful ones. Enda will be in touch with details about this meeting.
